Irish animators have until next week to make a submission to be considered for nomination in the Animated Feature Film category for this year’s Oscars.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Science has announced a deadline of November 1 for submissions from animated feature filmmakers.
The announcement comes as the Screen Actors Guild Awards prepares for its own deadline of this Thursday (October 25) for nominations for consideration - across all categories - ahead of its own awards ceremony in January.
To qualify for consideration in the Animated Feature Film category for the Oscars, filmmakers must submit entry forms and supporting materials to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences by Thursday, November 1. Rules and submission forms are available at www.oscars.org/rules.
Irish animation company Cartoon Saloon’s ‘The Secret of Kells’ was previously nominated in this category in 2009. Winners in this category include Dreamworks’ ‘Shrek’, Disney’s ‘Up’ and ‘Toy Story 3’.
The 85th Academy Awards nominations will be announced on January 10 with ‘Family Guy’ creator Seth MacFarlane set to host the 2013 awards ceremony on February 24.
The Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards will be held on January 27. Submissions for the 2013 ceremony must be submitted by this Thursday.
Submissions may be only made online for the first time in the awards’ 19-year history at sagawards.org/submissions.
Previous winners of SAG Awards include Daniel Day-Lewis, who has won two awards, and Martin Sheen, who has won four awards.
