Irish co-production ‘The Knot’, starring ‘American Beauty’ actress Mena Suvari and ‘Kidulthood’ actor Noel Clarke, opens in cinemas tomorrow (October 5).
Billed as ‘’Bridesmaids’ meets ‘The Hangover’’, the romantic comedy sees Suvari play a bridesmaid in a wedding party full of naysayers who seem determined to stop the wedding of Talulah Riley (St Trinian’s) and Matthew McNulty’s (Misfits) characters.
Triona Campbell and Nuno Bernardo co-produced for Dublin-based beActive with UK-based Unstoppable Entertainment, founded by English actor, writer and director Noel Clarke, and New Treatment.
Noel Clarke, writer and director of ‘Kidulthood’ sequel ‘Adulthood’, also wrote the screenplay for ‘The Knot’. Jesse Lawrence (Don’t Hate Me Because…’) directed.
Speaking in an interview this week, Suvari, who shot to fame 13 years ago when she starred in ‘American Pie’ and ‘American Beauty’ back to back, said: “I really love romantic comedies and when I found out it was co-written and produced by Noel Clarke I really wanted to get on board.”
The feature is the first theatrical release for Dublin-based beActive, which also has offices in London and Lisbon. Cineworld in Dublin is releasing the film at the same time as the UK.
Producer Triona Campbell said: “We really can’t wait to hear what people think of the movie and will be sneaking into the screenings in Cineworld to hear the audience feed back – it’s a really funny movie, I think people will love it and we’d encourage everyone we know in Dublin to buy a ticket and just sit back and enjoy.
“We are so delighted that Cineworld in Dublin stepped up and is the first cinema here to show this little gem of a movie. It’s the company’s first theatrical release and we couldn’t have asked to work with better partners than Cineworld and teams at Unstoppable and New Treatment who we co-produced the film with,” Campbell added.
