The National Film School at IADT in Dun Laoghaire is to hold its first professional summer Animation Academy in association with Dublin-based animation company Boulder Media.
Taking place over four weeks from July 9 to August 3, the Animation Academy will focus on delivering an introduction to Adobe Flash 5.5 and professional animation. The NFS hopes that the course will help bridge the gap between college and industry for the 20 participants it will take on. The course is supported by the Irish Film Board.
Tutors will include Robert Cullen, creative director at Boulder Media; Paul O'Flanagan, animation director at Boulder Media; Gillian Comerford, animation director at Boulder Media; and Damien Byrne, animator and part of the animation team at IADT.
Founded in 2000, Boulder Media has produced shows such as the EmmyTM award-winning ‘Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends’. It is currently in production on Disney's next flagship show 'Randy Cunningham: Ninth Grade Ninja'.
Donald Taylor Black, Creative Director of the National Film School at IADT, said of the course: “We're absolutely delighted to deepen our strong links with the animation industry in Ireland, by introducing the NFS Academy.
“Rob Cullen and Boulder have been extremely enthusiastic about this project from the beginning and other companies have assured us of their co-operation in the years to come. Thanks also to the Irish Film Board for their continued support to The National Film School.”
The NFS Animation Academy will take the existing skills, strengths, and interests of recent undergraduates, graduates at ordinary and honours degree level, as well as animators currently working in the industry who want to re-train or redirect their career into a more specialised industry focus of Flash Animation. It will cost €300.00 per person with the course talking place at IADT's Dun Laoghaire campus.
Those who wish to apply for the course should apply online to Barbara Carraher at the Adult and Continuing Education Office, IADT before 12pm next Monday (July 2).
