16 May 2012 : By Eva Hall
'Downpour'
IFTA and ZeBBie Award-winners Killian Fitzgerald and Claire Dix are among the line-up for the Corona Fastnet Short Film Festival which gets underway on May 24 in Schull, Co Cork.

The four-day festival will screen over 100 Irish-produced short films, including Claire Dix’s ‘Downpour’, a four-minute short showing a bride-to-be remembering pivotal moments just before her wedding. Dix picked up the Best Short Film Script at the ZeBBie Awards last Friday night (May 11).

John Corcoran, Smedia Award winner and winner of the Bronze Torc for Excellence in the Student Fiction category at the Celtic Media Festival, has also submitted his short ‘Shellshock’ for screening. The 11-minute short shows one soldier’s struggle after returning from war. Both 'Downpour' and 'Shellshock' will screen on Friday May 25.

Donal Ó’Céilleachair (A Burning Question) and Joan Mary McCarthy’s nine-minute documentary ‘Deartháir’ will screen on Thursday May 24, while IFTA-winner Ken Wardrop discusses the art of the short film in May 25, followed by a screening of his acclaimed documentary 'His & Hers'. Killian Fitzgerald (The Writing in the Sky) will hold a post production audio workshop on Saturday May 26, giving lessons in everything from planning and mixing sound to adding sound effects to a film.

The festival will close with an award-giving ceremony, with 14 awards in total due to be handed out. The awards include Best Irish Short Film, with a prize of €2,000, and best animation, with a prize of €200.

Noted names who will be in attendance at this year's festival include English director Mike Leigh (Secrets & Lies) and Irish director Lenny Abrahamson (Garage).
