Reality Bites Documentary Deadline Looms
02 May 2012 :
Bye Bye Now
Documentary makers will have until this Friday (May 4) to submit for the next round of the Irish Film Board’s Reality Bites scheme.

Reality Bites aims to encourage experimentation and a fresh approach to short non-fiction filmmaking. The IFB are accepting submissions in English or Irish and have said they are “are looking for something new in the use of the documentary form, whether the projects are journalistic or creative, observational or aesthetic, objective or personal.”

The scheme will provide funding for up to three films of up to 12 minutes in duration, all of which will premiere at the Corona Cork Film Festival next year.

Successful Reality Bites include ‘Bye, Bye Now’, which was co-directed and co-produced by Ross Whittaker and Aideen O'Sullivan, and has been hugely successful on an international level having screened at festivals such as Athens, Vancouver and Krakow as well as the Silver Docs festival.

Whittaker’s subsequent documentary ‘Home Turf’ is one of three currently being screened at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival, which runs until Sunday (May 6).

Ciaran Cassidy's ‘Collaboration Horizontale’ picked up a prize at the Palm Springs International ShortFest, North America's largest short film festival and market.

Full details for applying are available on the Irish Film Board website.
