Irish designer Sandra Murphy has been chosen to supply the costumes for Saoirse Ronan’s upcoming alien film ‘The Host’. Murphy, originally from County Clare and now based in New York, sent around 40 pieces to the costume department.
Murphy was contacted in February from what she refers to as “Hollywood”, and admits she is “hugely proud just knowing that my designs were sought for consideration”. It is not yet known how many of Murphy’s vintage-inspired designs will make the final cut.
‘The Host’ is set for release on 29th March, 2013. American independent distribution company Open Road, a co-venture with AMC and Regal Cinemas, will distribute the film. Former Lionsgate Films president Tom Ortenberg is the current CEO of Open Road.
Director Andrew Niccol, writer of ‘The Truman Show’, began filming in Louisiana in February and is expected to film in New Mexico in April. Stephenie Meyer will produce ‘The Host’ along with Nick Wechsler, Paula Mae Schwartz and Steve Schwartz. The trio previously worked together on ‘The Road’. ‘The Host’ will be executive produced by Jim Seibel (The Grey) and Bill Johnson from Inferno Entertainment. ‘The Host’ will be five-time IFTA Award-winner Saoirse Ronan’s 13th feature film since the Irish actress starred as Izzie in ‘I Could Never Be Your Woman’ in 2007.
Sandra Murphy currently stocks her range in three Manhattan stores, having launched in Henri Bendel on 5th Avenue just this week.
