The 9th Annual Irish Film & Television Awards will take place on Saturday 11th of February 2012, returning for the second time to the spectacular setting within the Convention Centre Dublin (CCD). The Irish Film & Television Awards celebrate the finest Irish screen creative talent – encouraging, honouring and recognising Irish people working within the film and television industries both at home and around the world.
Submissions are now invited for categories across film, television, shorts and animation. The Awards are open to talented craftspeople working in the film and television industries in Ireland and in the international arena.
For IFTA 2012 the Irish Film & Television Academy has unveiled five new categories to its annual Awards, these are:
- Reality
- Director Television
- Director of Photography Television
- Editing Television
- Sound Television
The nominees and winners of the Irish Film & Television Awards are decided by Members of IFTA and a selected jury of top industry professionals.
The 8th Irish Film & Television Awards, held in February 2011, drew a home Irish audience of over 650,000 viewers for the Awards Ceremony’s live broadcast on RTÉ One. Guests who attended the Awards included the former President of Ireland Mary McAleese and Michael D. Higgins; actors Pierce Brosnan, Brendan Gleeson, Saoirse Ronan, Kim Cattrall, Joely Richardson, Colm Meaney, Stephen Rea, Amy Huberman, Charlene McKenna, Martin McCann, Ruth McCabe and Ruth Bradley; film and programme makers including PJ Dillon, Tom Hall, Juanita Wilson, Thaddeus O'Sullivan, Morgan O'Sullivan, James Flynn, Joan Bergin and Tim Fleming; and television names such as Gay Byrne, Pat Kenny, Miriam O’Callaghan plus many more.
