Set in late 19th century Ireland, where women aren’t encouraged to be independent, Albert Nobbs poses as a man so she can work in a Dublin hotel. When she meets a handsome painter, she looks to escape the lie she has been living. ‘Albert Nobbs’ features five time Oscar nominated actress Glenn Close (Dangerous Liaisons) in the title role.
The feature filmed in Dublin in December 2010/January 2011 with Alan Moloney producing for Parallel films, alongside producers Bonnie Curtis, Julie Lynn and Glenn Close. Directed by Rodrigo Garcia and written by Glenn Close and John Banville, ‘Albert Nobbs’ boasts talent including Janet McTeer (Tideland), Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland), Aaron Johnson (Nowhere Boy), Brendan Gleeson (The Guard), Brenda Fricker (A Time To Kill) and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers (Match Point).
Premiering at the Toronto Film Festival, ‘Albert Nobbs’ has been praised by critics, with The Guardian calling it ”a gripping ensemble piece” and Screen Daily saying ”Close is surrounded by an expert ensemble cast with Pauline Collins enjoyable theatrical as the flirtatious Mrs Baker, Brendan Gleeson adding depth to the role do the hotel’s resident doctor and Janet McTeer capturing the gruff compassion of Hubert.”
