Mind the Gap Films 2x50 minute documentary series which uses new and archived footage to explore the tradition of festivals and Beauty Queens in Ireland is currently filming throughout Ireland.
Two days were spent filming at the Charleville Cheese Festival in Cork and two days at the Blue Jean country Queen festival in Athboy, Co. Meath. The programme hopes to get to the heart of what Irish festivals mean to the local people and what being crowned Queen means to those taking part. Producer and Director on the show is Bill Hughes (Celebrity Jigs and Reels) with Bernadine Carraher (Happy Birthday Oscar Wilde) Executive Producing.
The documentary will continue to film next month at a further four Irish festivals before going into post-production in Screen Scene in August and September for Delivery to TV3 in October. It was funded by the BAI. Jennifer Healy and Fran McNulty are Researchers on the series with Daniel Fleming operating principle Camera.
Mind the Gap Films are currently looking for archive footage of festivals from around the country as they attempt to explore the themes of volunteerism and community through an examination of Irish festivals.
