Hector’s back for an 8 part travel series across Central America on TG4.

IFTN speaks with Producer/Director Evan Chamberlain about the new ‘Hector Central’ series on TG4. “This has been the most difficult and the most dangerous of all the trips we have done over the last 16 years,” he said.

 In the new series ‘Hector Central’ which airs on Thursday nights, 10 pm on TG4.  We follow Hector as he journeys through the 7 countries of  Central America, starting in  Panama City he moves from Costa Rica to Nicaragua to El Salvador to Honduras to Guatemala, finishing in Belize City on the footsteps of the Caribbean.

When speaking about what is was like to be a part of the series and the travelling involved, Evan said “Panama to Costa Rica to Nicaragua is great with fabulous people though the poverty rises as you venture north. But when you head into the dangerous triangle of Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala you enter a different world of gangs, corruption and poverty which allow the cocaine trails to remain open.”

When he spoke of the potential danger factors associated with filming in these types of countries. Evan said, “You don't see many other travellers like ourselves in these parts but once you stick to the right neighbourhoods all is good. We loved the people of Central America and loved the adventure and feel we have taken back to Ireland a true and honest sense of these 7 countries. This we feel is our best yet. And hopefully people will watch and let us know!.”

The half hour episodes which began last week will be aired each Thursday at 10pm on TG4 until Christmas. The week’s episode two, will begin on the streets of San Jose as Hector takes over a bingo stall and also  checks out why this city is the centre of the world for medical tourism, gaming and gambling worldwide. He will also be going deep into the rainforest ecosystem of Costa Rica, at the Rainmaker Jungle and heading to Jaco on the Pacific Coast for some sportfishing for giant sailfish.

It looks to be Hector's most epic and dangerous trip so far.  Evan also mentioned that the crew travelling with him for this series has been the same crew since that started travelling 16 years ago with Hector. This crew  includes;

Presenter - Hector Ó hEochagáin,

Director of Photography - Ross O'Callaghan

Producer/Director - Evan Chamberlain

Offline Editor - Cóilín Ó Cearbhaill

Online & Grade - Cillian Duffy & Eugene McCrystal - Outer Limits

Sound Mix - Steve McGrath

The series is produced by Good Company Productions and was commissioned by TG4 as part of the 20th celebration of the birth of the station.
