Following on from the station’s drama call for submissions last week, RTÉ Daytime and Lifestyle, RTÉ Lifestyle Programmes for the BAI and RTÉ Cláracha Gaeilge for BAI are calling for ideas for two to three Sunday night slots in spring and autumn 2011, pre-watershed programming and up to 12 programmes for potential submission to BAI Sound & Vision Round 10 respectively.
Where RTÉ Daytime and Lifestyle programming is concerned the programming slots are for 7.30pm on Sunday evenings in both cases and RTE's preferences is for big returnable brands and talent that will build a loyal audience for a number of seasons. Applicants are asked to send in ideas for a series of 6-12 episodes of 26 minutes in length. RTÉ have further explained that programmes that work best on Sunday night play to a family audience - ‘Brides of Franc’, ‘No Frontiers’, ‘Show Me the Money’ and ‘The Restaurant’ have been amongst their most successful Sunday night offerings.
RTÉ has also said it is also willing to look at series’ which offer a real alternative to big entertainment - programmes that are intelligent, gripping, more adult and more male skewed - something for audiences who are assiduously avoiding shiny floors and sequenced tops. The broadcaster is prepared to consider proposals with budgets in the range of €50k - €65k per half hour, depending on the production model and format. Ideas which offer quality content below those rates will be welcomed. Budgets provided for either of the above slots should be inclusive of all costs - production fees, overheads etc.

As to RTÉ Lifestyle programmes for the BAI, the group will review submissions that have a resonance for a pre-watershed RTÉ One audience for the BAI round closing 5th November 2010. RTÉ are particularly interested in programmes which tap into collections of personal archives and which give viewers a new route into social and cultural history. Applicants should note that a fuller treatment should also be sent by hard copy to RTÉ TV Daytime and Lifestyle for the BAI, Independent Productions, Stage 7, RTÉ, Donnybrook, Dublin 4. These should arrive at RTÉ Goods Inwards no later than close of business on Friday the 24th of September 2010.
As reported recently in IFTN’s discussion on Irish Language Programmings, RTÉ Cláracha Gaeilge for BAI is inviting proposals for an Irish language learning series of up to 12 programmes for potential submission to BAI Sound & Vision Round 10.
The broadcaster is seeking creative programme concepts that bring together innovative television production styles and the dynamic and interactive potential of social networking sites to create a new approach to learning Irish. The closing date for receipt of submissions through RTÉ eCommissioning is close of business on Wednesday, 22nd September.
