Dublin’s Darklight Film Festival has announced the participants for the Heroes Edition Guest Programmers for the festival which takes place in October. Festival Director Nicky Gogan has also announced that Lance Weiler will return to the festival this year as Symposium Key Note speaker. Early bird tickets are currently available for the event and participants are being accepted for Tyrell’s ‘My Environment, My Film' workshop and competition event.
This year’s Darklight Heroes Edition, will see festival alumni and contributors from the past 10 editions to invite their heroes to this year's event. They will be programming screenings, workshops and gigs for the festival which has relocated to The Factory on Dublin’s Barrow Street.
The guest programmers chosen for 2010 include Animator David O'Reilly (Please Say Something); art/music/technology collective Synth Eastwood; independent gig promoters and record label Skinny Wolves; Film & Animation History lecturer and musician Michael Connerty; digital rights expert and documentary filmmaker Caroline Campbell (Alibi) and producer Katie Holly (One Hundred Mornings). Darklight 2010: Heroes Edition will take place 28 - 31 October 2010 in and around Temple Bar.
Darklight Festival Director Nicky Gogan has invited Lance Weiler back to Darklight as the keynote speaker at the symposium this year. Of her decision Nicky says:"In 1999 Lance screened his film The Last Broadcast at the first ever Darklight and has remained one of our all-time favorite guests. Now considered to be “One of twenty-five people helping to re-invent entertainment and change the face of Hollywood” (Wired magazine) we couldn't be more excited that he has taken time out of his head-spinning schedule as writer/director/producer/pioneer to come back and visit us in Dublin.
”Lance has been speaking at events all over the world about Transmedia production, from the creative challenges and opportunities of writing for multiple platforms to the emerging technologies that are set to infiltrate the way we consume entertainment. Tyrell CCT has further announced that David O Beirne from Tyrell CCT will present a viral Video Making and Distribution Workshop as part of the Darklight Festival entitled ‘My Environment, My Film' . David will address ‘Technology in Film and Video Production', where he will highlight the new and emerging technologies for video production, editing, storage and distribution. The free workshop will take place on Saturday 28th August from at 12pm until 6pm.
Workshop participants will be told how to enter the ‘My Environment, My Film' competition which will see the winning entry screened at the Darklight Film Festival. The competition is open to people of all ages and experiences who present a short movie related to the theme of 'Your Environment.' The event is organized by the EU Commission, the Darklight Festival and Cultivate. Tyrell CCT are also sponsors of the event.
