‘An Bealach Glas’, a four-part series produced by El Zorrero Films with support from the Comhar Sustainable Development Media Fund, begins on Monday, May 31st on TG4 and follows the lives of various individuals involved in sustainable pursuits in Ireland.
Audiences will be introduced to various characters throughout the four part series which is comprised of four short documentaries. These include Dara Molloy, who has settled with his family on the northern slopes of Inis Mór to enjoy a life rooted in cultural and spiritual tradition; Seán Breathnach, who works with his colleagues to protect the waters of Lough Corrib from invasive species such as Lagarosiphon Major (also known as Curly-Leafed Waterweed); Johnny Clochartaigh – a farmer in Connemara – who uses the techniques passed down through his family for generations to harvest seaweed for use as a sustainable fuel; and Businessman Michael Prendergast, who contracts local farmers to grow rapeseed, from which he derives pure oil.
The series will run for four consecutive evenings, broadcasting at the same time each evening, and concluding on Thursday, 3rd June. All four short docs are directed by Ciarán Deeney (Noreen) and produced by David Clarke (Dead and Buried) who was also director of photography.
The first episode of ‘An Bealach Glas’ will be broadcast Monday, 31st May, at 6.50pm on TG4.
