Irish actress Saoirse Ronan (Atonement, City of Ember) has been nominated for her role in ‘Death Defying Acts’ for this year's L’Oréal Paris 2008 Australian Film Institute Awards.
Saoirse has been nominated in the L’Oréal Paris AFI Young Actor Award Category
along with Danielle Catanzariti (Hey Hey It’s Esther Blueburger), Tom Green (The Ground Beneath) and Clarence John Ryan (September).
She stars alongside Catherine Zeta Jones (Chicago) and Guy Pearse (Factory Girl) in the Gillian Armstrong (Charlotte Gray) directed tale which follows the Hungarian escapologist Harry Houdini in the height of his career in the 1920s who enters into a passionate affair with a psychic out to con the famous magician. Ronan plays Zeta Jones’ daughter in the film.
The actress can currently be seen in ‘City Of Ember’ alongside Bill Murray and has completed filming Peter Jackson’s ‘The Lovely Bones’ in New Zealand.
The L'Oréal Paris 2008 AFI Awards will take place at Melbourne’s Princess Theatre on Saturday 6 December and will be televised on the Nine Network at 9.30pm.
Other talent to receive nominations includes Eric Bana (The Other Boleyn Girl), Russell Crowe (American Gangster), Heath Ledger (The Dark Knight), Cate Blanchett (Elizabeth: The Golden Age), Rachel Griffiths (Brothers & Sisters) and Nicole Kidman (The Golden Compass).
