IFTA-nominated short ‘The Wednesdays’, directed by Conor Ferguson, scooped the Ellen Jury Special Recognition Prize at the Aspen Shortsfest winning a €1,000 cash prize.
The short, which tells the funny, poignant tale of an elderly couple who rediscover love and adventure with the help of some ecstasy tablets, has already picked up audience awards at February’s Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival and last year’s Chicago Film Festival.
The short, co-written by Conor Ferguson and Luke Clancy, stars IFTA winning actress Tina Kellegher (Showbands, Ballykissangel), Alan Devlin (Song for a Raggy Boy, Omagh) with Doreen Keogh (The Royle Family) and Des Keogh as the elderly couple.
The 13 minutes short has also been selected to screen at film festivals in Canada, Russia, Mexico, Spain, Portugal, the UK and New York; and is set to become part of the film study programme in Columbia University, New York.
‘The Wednesdays’ was produced by Anne-Marie Naughton of Park Films under a Galway Film Centre short film scheme.
The Aspen Shortsfest took ran from the 2nd-6th April in Colorado.
