Weinstein Company Picks Up ‘Dorothy Mills’ US Rights

The Weinstein Company has bought the US distribution rights to the psychological thriller ‘Dorothy Mills’, shot on location in Ireland this summer.

The US rights for 'Dorothy Mills' were sold as part of a three picture deal announced at the American Film Market between The Weinstein's and sales agent Wild Bunch. The other titles in the deal, negotiated between TWC's Michal Podell and Maeva Gatineau and Wild Bunch's Carole Baraton, included Pascal Laugier's 'Martyrs' and Marc Caro's 'Dante 01'.

Directed by award-winning French helmer Agnes Merlet (Aremisia, Le Fils du Requin), 'Dorothy Mills', which was co-funded by the Irish Film Board, was shot in Wicklow and Donegal from June to mid-August of this year. The film was also penned by Merlet and co-writer Juliette Sales.

‘Dorothy Mills’ stars Dutch actress Carice Van Houten (Minoes, Zwartboek) as Jane, a psychiatrist sent into a hostile island community in Ireland to take charge of a gifted teenager, Dorothy Mills, charged with attacking a baby.

Jane discovers that Dorothy may not be responsible for her actions and might be possessed by a horrifying and malevolent force. As she helps Dorothy, Jane is confronted with her own past tragedies and starts to unravel another terrible secret hidden b some of the local villagers.

Newcomer Jenn Murray plays Dorothy Mills, alongside British actor Gary Lewis (Billy Elliot, Gangs of New York), Irish actors David Wilmot (Intermission, The Clinic) and Ger Ryan (Stardust). 'Pure Mule' actress Charlene McKenna and David Murray are in supporting roles.

DOP on the flic was Greek cinematographer Yorgos Arvanitis, with Irish crew including costume designer Suzanne Cave (Isolation, Headrush) and production designer David Wilson (Omagh, Whatever Love Means) also working on the production.

An Irish/ French co-production, ‘Dorothy Mills’ is produced by Octagon Films James Flynn and Fidelite Films Olivier Delbosc and Marc Missonnier.
