Irish horror film ‘Cherry Tree’ has been chosen to open the 2015 Film4 Frightfest, one of the UK’s most renowned genre film festivals which takes place in London this August.
Directed by David Keating (‘Wake Wood’, ‘The Last of the High Kings’) and written by Brendan McCarthy (‘Wake Wood’), ‘Cherry Tree’ follows Faith who, on the advice of her alluring sports coach Sissy, agrees to have Satan’s baby in order to save her dying father.
Funded by the Irish Film Board, ‘Cherry Tree’ stars Anna Walton, Naomi Battrick, Sam Hazeldine. It was produced by Fantastic Films (John McDonnell) and House of Netherhorror and was also financed by MPI Media Group, Solid Entertainment and Windmill Lane. Crew members include editor John Walters, DoP Eleanor Bowman and composer John Walsh.
Commenting on the selection of Cherry Tree, a representative from Film4 Frightfest stated: “We have never opened with an Irish production before. So we figured it was about time to put a sharp focus on all the sterling work the Irish Film Board has done to promote the genre. Over the years we have premiered ‘Dead Meat’, ‘Isolation’, ‘Dorothy Mills’, ‘Dark Touch’ and ‘The Canal’ and ‘Cherry Tree’ follows in their fine tradition offering storytelling excellence, great production values and terrific casting, slathered with that appealing Emerald Isle quirkiness.”
Film4 Frightfest 2015 takes place in London’s West End at the Vue, Leicester Square, between August 27th and 31st.
