Irish actor Emmett J Scanlan has been nominated for three Inside Soap Awards for his role as Brendan Brady in Channel 4 soap ‘Hollyoaks’. The nominations come just days after Scanlan was nominated for Best Soap Actor for this year's TV Choice Awards.

The Dublin-born actor has been nominated for Best Actor, Funniest Male and Best Bad Boy in the 2012 Inside Soap Awards. ‘Hollyoaks’ is also up for Best Soap on the night.

Scanlan made a name for himself in both Ireland the UK when he took up the role of troubled Brady in ‘Hollyoaks’ in 2010, cementing his status as soap’s bad boy. The role has earned him a number of nominations, including Best Actor, Villain of the Year and Best Newcomer at the 2011 British Soap Awards, for which he won the latter two.

Most recently he won the European Independent Film Festival Award for Best Actor for his role in Irish feature ‘Charlie Casanova’, a role which Scanlan admitted getting into some “dark situations” for.

He is up against his ‘Hollyoaks’ co-stars Kieron Richardson (Ste Hay) and Ashley Taylor Dawson (Darren Osborne) in the Best Actor category, Neil Newbon (Simon Walker) for Best Bad Boy, and Joe Tracini (Dennis Savage) for Funniest Male.

Scanlan will be seen next in BBC drama ‘The Fall’, which recently wrapped filming in Belfast. He stars alongside fellow ‘Hollyoaks’ actor Gerard McCarthy, who was recently cast in ‘Vikings’.

Other Irish talent recognised on the awards circuit include Armagh actor Colin Morgan, who is nominated for Best Actor at this year’s TV Choice Awards; Cork-native Graham Norton who is up for Best Entertainment Show for his BBC chat show; and ‘Mrs. Brown’s Boys’, led by Dublin-born comedian Brendan O’Carroll, which is up for Best Comedy Series. Voting for the TV Choice Awards can be done here, and ends on Friday July 13.

Voting for the 2012 Inside Soap Awards opens today (Wednesday July 10) via Inside Soap Magazine or the Inside Soap website. The awards will be held in September.
