US network CBS has ordered a pilot of Wild Rover's quizshow ‘Secret Fortune’. The move follows productions of the Wild Rover Production’s format commencing in France, Australia, Finland, Turkey and the Middle East amongst many other global locations. News comes in the wake of Wild Rover’s original format of the show being re-commissioned for a second series by BBC Entertainment.
‘Secret Fortune’ sees a pair of contestants teamed with 24 envelopes with different hidden amounts of prize money inside. Depending on how well the contestants answer a series of questions the envelopes are gradually eliminated until only one remains – the ‘Secret Fortune’ of the title.
Nigel Lythgoe (American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance) will be the executive producer of the ‘Secret Fortune’ pilot for CBS along with Wild Rover Productions’ Philip Morrow. ‘Secret Fortune’ has already sold to dozens of worldwide broadcasters including France’s Starling; Shine in Austarlia; Finland‘s Nordisk Film & TV; Hedgehog Media in the Middle East and Turkey’s Medyalab. A further five production rights deals have been secured in Europe for Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal and Greece. All production deals for the format have been carried out by sales agents DRG.
BBC Entertainment has re-commissioned Wild Rover’s Saturday night format, ‘Secret Fortune’. The new eight-part series produced by the Belfast production company will be recorded at BBC Scotland's Pacific Quay studios for BBC One this summer and will again be hosted by Nick Knowles (DIY SOS).
Wild Rover has already enjoyed success across the pond where an American format of its series ‘Take the Money and Run’ will launch on US Network, ABC on April 14th. The format, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, was originally developed by Wild Rover’s Philip Morrow alongside Matthew Worthy and Kieran Doherty. Wild Rover productions have retained UK and Ireland rights to the format but there are no home broadcast plans for the format as of yet.
