The Irish Film and Television Academy, in association with BAI, is to host a screenwriting event entitled Writing for Film & Television - An Evening With... Dick Clement & Ian La Frenais on Tuesday, March 22nd. IFTA Academy Members are invited to attend the event where the BAFTA and Emma winning writing duo behind hits such as ‘Porridge’, ‘The Likely Lads’, ‘The Commitments’ and upcoming feature ‘Killing Bono’ will discuss their careers and writing for television.
The exclusive IFTA event will explore the career of the writing pair who brought television audiences other enduring series such as ‘Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads?’ and ‘Auf Wiedersehen, Pet’ and created cinema hits such as ‘Flushed Away’, ‘Doing Time’, ‘The Bank Job’ and ‘Tracey Takes On’. Their work has clinched accolades and awards from BAFTA, the Writers Guild of America and Emmy award nominations amongst many others.
The IFTA event has been organised to precede the nationwide theatrical release of the pair’s recent Irish project, ‘Killing Bono’ which is released nationwide on April 1st.
As part of their talk, Dick and Ian will speak about their background, skill set, and inspiration as well as the creative process, the importance of an ear for dialogue and the challenges and benefits of collaborative work. IFTA members in attendance will be invited to ask questions and clips will be shown from the pair’s body of work to illustrate various points throughout the conversation.
