UTV has installed a new archiving system which has been introduced to give the broadcaster faster access to its digital news packages and archive material as it moves towards a tapeless workflow. The new system involves a combination of Object Matrix and Marquis technology.
Sean Ferrin, head of operations at UTV, has said that he hopes the Tyrell CCT-supplied Marquis Parking software and MatrixStore cluster from Object Matrix will lead to significant cost savings, explaining that: “The combination of Object Matrix and Marquis gives UTV a flexible solution that is easily scalable and allows us to accommodate and manage our rapidly growing digital news archive. It will greatly reduce the requirement for large quantities of tapes and associated physical storage.”
The integrated solution is designed to allow the Northern Irish broadcaster move entire sequences, including edit decisions, subclips and metadata, from Avid Isis storage to the MatrixStore environment in a one-click process. Powered by Marquis Broadcast’s Media Highway Technology, the set-up will use Parking’s edit sequence archive and restore functionality along with MatrixStore’s nearline storage.
