Audiences to Explore 'Terry Wogan's Ireland' | The Irish Film & Television Network

This two-part series will follow Terry Wogan as he travels around Ireland from the south to the north. Along the way he'll meet old friends, as he steps back into his past to explore how Ireland helped shape him. He'll journey across the landscape, through towns and villages dominated and irrevocably changed by their historic and political past and examine what it means to be a member of the modern day Irish community.

Cardiff-based production company, Presentable will produce the two 60-minute programmes for BBC One. ‘Terry Wogan's Ireland’ is this week filming in and around the Galway and Dublin areas. It is being directed and shot by Chris Bruce on HD and will air on BBC One in 2010.

The series was commissioned by Charlotte Moore, the BBC’s Commissioning Editor for Documentaries, and is being made through BBC Cymru Wales. The executive producers on board are Martyn Ingram and Teresa Watkins (The World’s Greatest Musical Prodigies). Speaking with IFTN Martyn gave this explanation as to the angle the series will take: “It will look at Terry’s journey with a slight feel of ‘Who do you think you are?’ but also bring in the history of Ireland and look at the country today,” he tells us.

Where the choice of Terry Wogan is concerned Maxine Watson, the BBC’s Commissioning Executive, says:"Terry is the perfect person to take us on this journey. He, like millions of Irish people before him, may have settled elsewhere, yet across the diaspora there remains a strong sense of Irish identity."

Alongside the filming of the series Terry Wogan is currently presenting ‘Weekend Wogan’, the second series of which is on every Sunday on BBC Radio 2 between 10am-1pm.
