‘Moone Boy’ Season 3 Filming to Begin this Autumn
17 Jun 2013 : By Kevin Cronin
'Moone Boy' Season 3 in pre-production.
Pre-production is currently underway on the third series of IFTA-winning ‘Moone Boy’, with a start date for principal photography on the next six episodes scheduled for this Autumn.

Even though season two has not aired yet, confidence is high in the series following positive reaction to the screening of the first two episodes of season two at the Sky Cat Laughs Festival in Kilkenny earlier this month.

Chris O’Dowd has also confirmed that he will direct an episode of the third series, making his directorial debut, and is writing a part specifically for broadcasting veteran and Limerick native Terry Wogan.

Italia 1990 and the World Cup hysteria that gripped Ireland that glorious summer will form a big element of the second series, which will also feature appearances by Amy Huberman, Bressie, and Pat Shortt.

Season 2 storylines focus on Martin beginning secondary school, where he develops a crush on his art-teacher Miss Tivnan (Amy Huberman), and later falls for Majella, one of a group of Travellers who move into the field next to the Moone home.

Other highlights include a golf battle between Liam and his old rival; a religious-themed stag party; a Halloween adventure on a river raft that leads to an encounter with the mysterious Island Joe (Pat Shortt); and a St. Patrick’s Day parade in the middle of Boyle.

‘Moone Boy’ won the IFTA for Best Entertainment at the 2013 awards ceremony and was also nominated in the categories of Best Director TV Drama (Declan Lowney); Best Script Drama (Chris O’Dowd and Nick Vincent Murphy); Best Supporting Actor TV (Chris O’Dowd); and Best Supporting Actress TV (Deirdre O’Kane).

‘Moone Boy’ is produced by Grand Pictures, Baby Cow Productions, Hot Cod Productions and Sprout Pictures for Sky 1.
