Two Irish short animation films, ‘Old Fangs’ and ‘Miss Remarkable & Her Career’ have been selected to compete in the 50th Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France this June.
‘Old Fangs’, written and directed by Adrien Mergeau (background designer, The Secret of Kells), tells the story of a young wolf who decides to confront his absent father. The film was produced by Ross Murray (Backwards Boy) for Cartoon Saloon, the Irish production company behind the Oscar animated feature ‘The Secret of Kells’. The film was produced under the Frameworks short animation scheme funded by the IFB, the Arts Council and RTÉ.
‘Miss Remarkable & Her Career’ is written and directed by Joanna Rubin Dranger and produced by Jeremy Purcell (effects designer, The 3 Wise Men). The short is a darkly comedic animation which tells the tale of Miss Remarkable’s struggles in the areas of parenting and her career. The film was a co-production between Galway’s A Man & Ink and Sweden’s Lisbett Gabreilsson.
The two shorts are among the 39 shorts selected for competition from almost 2,000 submissions received by organisers. The Annecy Film Festival, which was launched in 1960, is the world's largest event entirely focused on animation. It will take place from June 7th to June 12th.
