‘Six Semesters’ Enjoys Stateside Screenings
03 Mar 2010 :
Six Semesters
'Six Semesters' one of Ireland's first feature length student films, has been selected to screen in three festivals in the United States over the coming months. This follows screenings at the Galway Film Fleadh, the CCIIFF in France and the Clones Film Festival. The film, which was entirely produced by Dublin City University students in 2007-2008, is a romantic comedy about a student who breaks up couples for a living.

‘Six Semesters’ is written, directed and edited by John McKeown who also produced alongside Jessica Duggan. The low-budget film is a romantic comedy set over three years of college life and centres on student Eddie (Dallan McCormick) and his unusual part-time job - breaking up couples. Eddie’s suspicious view of love and romance takes an interesting turn when Ailbhe (Marie-Claire Hoey), a girl he meets on the very first day of college, begins to feature heavily in his complicated life.

The project’s director of photography is Sadashini Moodley who also worked as editor with John. The film’s sound was managed by Greg Fitzpatrick and Mark McGowran. The remaining cast members of ‘Six Semesters’ includes Eoin O’Callaghan, Lyndsey Fay, Mark Watson, Liana O’Cleirigh (Zonad), Laura Whitmore (Xposé). Lead actor Dallan McCormick will travel with John McKeown to the United States for two of the upcoming screenings.

As part of the New Filmmakers Series, 'Six Semesters' will screen in Anthology Film Archives, 2nd Avenue, NYC, at 8.30pm on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17th. The film will also be screened on March 20th as part of the San Luis Obispo Film Festival, showing in the Palm Theater, San Luis Obispo, California at 4pm. Finally the film will enjoy a screening on April 19th as part of the 2010 Buffalo Niagara Film Festival.

’Six Semesters’ John McKeown tells IFTN he is delighted at the success the film is enjoying: “We’re over the moon!” he says “We’re really excited and myself and Dallan are looking forward to going over for two of the screenings.”
