Victoria Smurfit to Host 2010 IFTA Ceremony | The Irish Film & Television Network

IFTA CEO, Áine Moriarty, welcomed Victoria into her new role saying: “The Academy is delighted to introduce our first female Host for the 2010 Awards Ceremony. Victoria is a hugely talented actress, and is well respected for her work both in Ireland and abroad. She’s a great supporter of the home industry and very well loved by her peers for her vibrant, witty personality. Although Victoria is conscious that she’s got big boots to fill as the first female presenter, we have no doubt that everyone’s in for a treat as she brings her own style and fun to the Hosting role."

Commenting on the recent announcement the new IFTA host said: "I'm delighted to host this year's Irish Film & Television Awards as it represents a celebration of the very best of Irish screen talent. I'm very flattered and excited to be a part of this terrific event."

Victoria Smurfit has enjoyed a successful television and movie career with film credits including ‘About a Boy’, ‘The Leading Man’, ‘Bulletproof Monk’ and ‘The Beach’. She has also featured in the TV productions ‘The Shell Seekers’, ‘Berkeley Square’, ‘The Clinic’, ‘Cold Feet’, ‘Ballykissangel’ with her most notable role being that of DCI Roisin Connor in ‘Trial and Retribution’.

The 7th Annual Irish Film & Television Awards will take place at Dublin’s Burlington Hotel on Saturday, 20 February 2010. The ceremony will broadcast live on RTÉ One at 9.35pm on 20 February 2010.
