Irish writer/director Andrew Legge (The Chronoscope, The Unusual Inventions of Henry Cavendish) is one of six filmmakers who have been chosen from a group of 170 applicants to participate in the 19th edition of the Cannes Film Festival’s Cinefondation Residence.
This year’s edition of the Cinefondation began on the 1st October and will run until the 15th of February 2010. Legge will be looking to develop his project ‘Clovis Teazle’, a film set in Paris which follows a young female doctor in the early part of the 20th century. All six film-makers will also meet with industry executives and fellow film-makers for guidance in developing their work.
Other filmmakers chosen include Costa Rican director Paz Fabrega and South African director Oliver Hermanus, Ioana Uricaru, from Romania, director of ‘After the Wedding’, ‘Ziba’s Iranian filmmaker Bani Khoshnoudi and ‘For Vain’s Chinese director Zhang Yue.
The Cinefondation was created in 2000 by Cannes Festival President, Giles Jacob, and has since seen appoximately 89% of projects developed there either shot, distributed or currently in pre-production.
