Ed Byrne To Host New Comedy Panel Show | The Irish Film & Television Network

The show will feature a team of male comedians versus a team of female comedians trying to answer the age old question, “Who are the best at everything, Men or Women?” The female team is lead by Jo Caulfield (Never Mind the Buzzcocks) while John Bishop (8 Out of 10 Cats) heads up the male team. Guests to join the pilot show this week are Zoe Lyons, Kerry Godliman, Lloyd Langford, Pete Johansson.

The studio audience which is made up of 50 per cent males and 50 per cent females will get to decide which gender has made the most convincing comedy argument, the men or the women. Unfortunately for those in the audience the specially designed voting equipment also allows the host to know exactly how everyone is voting throughout the show and so will single them out.

Made by Belfast based Ulan Productions, producer Mark Benson thinks it is unlikely the programme will ever run out of material: “When we were making the show we discovered it’s not the big items that men and women argue about it’s the little things, like who’s the best chef, Gordon Ramsey or Nigella Lawson? Who needs Sat Nav the most, women because they can’t read a map or men because they refuse to ask directions? Or my own personal favourite, pick 10 things in your living room that you think are useless and who bought most of them, a man or a woman?”

The 1 x 30 min programme is a broadcast pilot commissioned by BBC Northern Ireland and BBC Network and developed with the assistance of Northern Ireland Screen and is directed by Geraldine Dowd. Ulan Productions is currently in discussion with the BBC about a UK network series.
