IFC Obtains US Rights to ‘The Escapist’

The Escapist
Parallel Film’s co-produced feature ‘The Escapist’, directed by Rupert Wyatt and starring Brian Cox and Liam Cunningham, has been picked up by IFC Films for US distribution.

‘The Escapist’ - a tense prison escape thriller was shot in Dublin for four weeks in 2007 in various locations including Connolly Station and Kilmainham Jail.

Cox (Troy) plays Frank Perry, a lifer, who discovers that his estranged daughter is sick and develops a plan to escape in order to make peace with her.

The film which has been nominated for a Best Film Award at this year’s IFTAs also stars Joseph Fiennes (Shakespeare in Love), Irish actor Liam Cunningham (The Wind That Shakes The Barley), Seu Jorge (City of God), Dominic Cooper (The History Boys), Steven Mackintosh (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels) and Damian Lewis (Band of Brothers).

’The Escapist’, which is nominated for Best Film at this year’s IFTAs, is produced by Alan Moloney of Parallel Films and Adrian Sturgess of Picture Farm. The film received finance from the UK Film Council and the Irish Film Board and was released through Vertigo Films in the UK and Ireland last year. IFC will release the film theatrically on April 3.
