Ridley Scott’s sequel to his 2000 film Gladiator is set to release theatrically in November 2024.
The film recently began production in Morocco. Behind the scenes footage has been released via a visit from Morocco's Minister of Culture, Mohammed Mehdi Bensaid.
While filming in Morocco, several crew members were injured in a stunt accident on set.
In a statement, a Paramount Pictures spokesperson said: "The safety and full medical services teams on-site were able to act quickly so that those who were impacted immediately received necessary care."
No cast members were injured but six people received treatment for burn injuries and four remain in hospital.
Production has since moved to Malta, with a photo circulating on social media of Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal posing together on a beach.
The upcoming sequel is being directed by Ridley Scott, and written by David Scarpa, who previously collaborated with Scott as the screenwriter for All the Money in the World.
Other frequent collaborators of Scott's on the crew include Academy Award-nominated cinematographer John Mathieson, Academy Award-nominated production designer Arthur Max and Academy Award-winning costume designer Janty Yates, all of whom worked on the original Gladiator.
Since the film’s original announcement, the cast has continued to grow. The ensemble now includes Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us), Denzel Washington (Training Day), Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things), as well as returning cast members of the original film Connie Nielsen (Nobody) and Derek Jacobi (Hamlet). Washington and Scott previously collaborated on the film American Gangster.
Fred Hechinger (The White Lotus) has replaced Barry Keoghan, who had to leave the film due to scheduling conflicts. Keoghan is set to star in Andrea Arnold’s Bird, alongside Franz Rogowski (Passages).
The sequel is currently set to release on November 22nd 2024.
