Screen Ireland has announced that Five and a Half Love Stories in an Apartment in Vilnius, Lithuania has been selected to receive its World Premiere at the 27th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (PÖFF).
Five and a Half Love Stories in an Apartment in Vilnius, Lithuania is a co-production of Lithuania, Ireland, and Latvia. The film will screen as part of the festival's Rebels With A Cause strand in the 27th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, which showcases films that experiment with form and rebel against conventional filmmaking tropes or political ideas.
The film is set in one location, an apartment in Vilnius. The empty flat is rented to various guests from Israel, Hungary, Poland, and Ireland. With every online reservation, a new story of love, hate, hope, and guilt evolves between the walls of the old building. The humble host Jolanta prepares the place for new temporary guests. She never meets them, isn't aware of what is happening in the apartment and just leaves the key as instructed.
“In the Rebels programme we don't challenge the audience, but we are dedicated to the audience that dares to challenge itself,” said Javier Garcia Puerto, the main curator of the Rebels With A Cause strand. “There are as many styles as filmmakers want to try and practice. And we push those boundaries: from documentaries that cross over into fiction and grip you like a thriller, to bold, satirical political statements, including drug lord sagas that are colourful and surprising. Get ready for the adventure: all this ride is for the brave and devoted audiences who want to try how cinema can be more personal, unique and daring.”
This year's Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival will take place from 3rd - 19th November, with Five and a Half Love Stories in an Apartment in Vilnius, Lithuania receiving its World Premiere on the 14th. The film is a production of Studio Uljana Kim, Tiger Darling Productions and Studio Locomotive. Five and a Half Love Stories in an Apartment in Vilnius, Lithuania is directed by Tomas Vengris and co-written by Vengris and Tatia Rosenthal. The film is supported by Screen Ireland, and sales are being handled by Alief.
Five and a Half Love Stories in an Apartment in Vilnius, Lithuania will have its Irish premiere on November 18th at the Cork International Film Festival, 2023.
