RTÉ has commissioned 'Circus World', a new ten-episode series of documentaries for children. The series will air to a young Irish audience on RTÉ 2 and RTÉjr from Monday 4th July.
The series was commissioned by RTÉ from independent production company Fubar Films, responsible for last year’s RTÉ series 'Zara World' and children's film 'Eliot & Me', which was backed by both RTÉ and the Irish Film Board. 'Circus World' is produced by the IFTA-nominated team Fiona Bergin and directed by Fintan Connolly.
The show his hosted by parents of the Gerbola family Mikey and Tara, and three children Blake (10), Michael (8), Isabella (5). The ten-episode series will follow the adventures of the children in a real Irish circus as they travel a different county of Ireland each day.
Circus Gerbola is run by the children’s parents, who descend from their own long lines of circus and show business families. The Gerbola family specialises in clowning and goes back eight generations.
Each episode features a circus performer and their big top performance. We meet the different circus artistes - who come from all over the world - and observe the children try out new skills. Among the acts and activities featured are: clowning, acrobatics, wire walking, roller skating, magic, juggling, slapstick, flying, gymnastics and finale.
