Irish Film Festival of India gets underway in Delhi
The 2nd Irish Film Festival of India opened on Monday this week with a screening of Tomm Moore and Nora Twomey’s multi-award winning ‘The Secret of Kells’. The Ambassador of Ireland to India, H.E. Feilim McLaughlin, launched the festival in Delhi. The theme of last year’s festival was great Irish writers in cinema and this year, the festival takes a look at the thriving sector of animation in Ireland. The festival will screen more than 40 animated features and shorts this year and runs in Delhi until April 4th before moving on to Bangalore (April 10th, 11th) and then on to Mumbai (April 17th, 18th). Japanese Film Festival to take place this month
The Japanese Film Festival will begin in Dublin’s Light House cinema on April 11th before making its way to different venues around the country in Cork, Galway, Limerick, and Waterford. Featuring a programme of 15 Japanese films from the most acclaimed directors of Japanese cinema, the festival contains a variety of themes and genres, including the ever-popular anime genre of filmmaking, which will be represented by Studio Ghibli’s ‘From Up on Poppy Hill’, directed by Goró Miyazaki. Other highlights include the hugely anticipated animations ‘Wolf Children’ and ‘009 Re: Cyborg’, the big screen adaptation of the long-running Japanese TV series. The Embassy of Japan, access>Cinema and the Ireland Japan Association are the co-organisers of the festival, with the support of The Japan Foundation and Scotland Loves Animation. Irish films to feature at Titanic Film Festival in Budapest
The Titanic International film festival, Hungary’s largest major international feature film event, will showcase a selection of contemporary Irish feature, documentary, and short films at this year’s event. ‘Emerald Island’ is the name of the Irish programme at this year’s festival and it runs in correspondence with Ireland’s EU presidency for 2013. The programme contains six feature films: Lenny Abrahamson’s ‘What Richard Did’ (which will run in competition at the festival), Jon Wright’s ‘Grabbers’, Ciarán Foy’s ‘Citadel’, Lisa Barros D’Sa and Glenn Leyburn’s ‘Good Vibrations’, and ‘Keys to City’ directed by Chris Brennan, Mel Cannon, and Laura Way. The programme also contains the feature documentary ‘Knuckle’, and also contains a 109-minute selection of 10 short films and animations.
