Lies We Tell will screen at the Dinard Film Festival as part of their Irish Eyes in Dinard spotlight. The film is a psychological thriller about a gaslit girl’s break for freedom. Maud (Agnes O’Casey), an orphaned heiress living alone in an isolated manor, must fight her Uncle (David Wilmot) for her inheritance, and her life. Lies We Tell also stars Holly Sturton and Chris Walley. The film is directed by Lisa Mulcahy and written by Elisabeth Gooch.

Joining Lies We Tell in this category are Irish films Barber and My Sailor My Love.

Barber follows Val Barber (Aidan Gillen), a private investigator, who is hired by a wealthy widow to find her missing granddaughter, Sara. While trying to solve this mystery, Barber is navigating a complicated personal life. Earlier this year, director Fintan Connolly sat down with IFTN to discuss the film’s mid-pandemic production.

My Sailor My Love follows a retired sea captain and his daughter who must reassess their strained relationship after he begins a new romance with a widowed housekeeper. The film is directed by Klaus Härö.

Dinard Film Festival celebrates Irish and UK cinema in the coastal French setting of Dinard. Prizes awarded at the festival include the Golden Hitchcock for best film, an award for best performance, the special jury prize, and audience awards for best feature and best short.

This year there is also a new prize for debut filmmakers, the Talents de Demain award, in which Naqqash Khalid, Raine Allen-Miller, Rebecca Lloyd-Evans, Lisa Selby, Alexander Fry and Josie Cole and Leo Leigh’ will compete. A new critics award has also been added.

Dinard Film Festival runs from September 28th to October 1st.
