The first look image of ‘Wildfire’, Cathy Brady’s debut feature film has been released ahead Cannes Film Festival, where the film will be introduced to buyers.
‘Wildfire’ tells the story of two sisters who grew up on the fractious Irish border. When one of them, who has been missing, finally returns home, the intense bond with her sister is reignited. Together they unearth their mother’s past but uncovered secrets and resentments which have been buried deep threaten to overwhelm them.
The film is produced by Samson Films’ David Collins (‘Once’, ‘Float like a Butterfly’), Tempesta Films’ Carlo Cresto-Dina (‘The Wonders’, ‘Happy as Lazzaro’) and Cowboy Films’ Charles Steel (‘The Last King Of Scotland’, ‘Marley’)
Speaking about the uniqueness of the project, the producers told Variety:
“Firstly, what excited us about ‘Wildfire’ was Cathy’s energy and talent, but also the unique generative process Cathy wanted for this: trying to create a film that is different because it’s made differently.”
Brady wrote the screenplay while working with her leading actors over a year-long workshopping process that has focused on improvisations, transcript, rehearsal, voice and dance drills.
The film shot on location in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland over a six-week production and is currently in post-production.
‘Wildfire’ has received development and production support from the Screen Ireland, Northern Ireland Screen, BFI, and the Wellcome Trust. The film was also co-financed by Film4, Sulcata Productions, Illium, and Lexis Media. Lizzie Francke, Celine Haddad, Lauren Dark, Emma Duffy, Robert Halmi and Jim Reeve are the executive producers.
The film has also been acquired by Great Point who will handle sales and will have footage to introduce to buyers at Cannes later this week.
Great Point previously presented the film to buyers at the American Film Market in LA back in October.
