Principle shooting has begun in Ireland on set of Steven Spielberg’s new production ‘The Turning’.
The Oscar winning director is said to have arrived in Ireland last week ahead of the start of the shoot, which takes place in Wicklow and is being made under his Amblin Entertainment production banner.
The horror film, which formerly went under the title ‘The Haunted’, is expected to spend part of its shoot on the Kilruddery Estate.
Strong security measure are said to have been taken by production to ensure the privacy of the film with crew on the project required to sign non-disclosure agreements and clearance needed to access the site.
The film boasts a young strong cast with Mackenzie Davis (‘Black Mirror’, ‘Blade Runner’) set to play a young governess, hired to care for two orphaned children played by Finn Wolfhard (‘Stranger Things’, ‘IT’) and rising star Brooklynn Prince (‘The Florida Project’).
The film, which is being executive produced by Steven Spielberg, will be directed by Floria Sigismondi who is most well known for ‘The Runaways’ (2015) and Hulu series ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’. The film is an adaptation of Henry James’ novella ‘The Turn of the Screw’.
Spielberg has previously worked in Ireland on his Oscar-winning war film ‘Saving Private Ryan’ (1997), which filmed in Wexford and attended the Irish charity premiere of ‘Lincoln’ in 2013.
The film is expected to be released in early 2019.
