Hedda is described as “an epic and visceral reimagination of Henrik Ibsen’s famed 1891 stage play Hedda Gabler”, directed and written by Nia DaCosta.
Eve Hewson (Bad Sisters, Flora and Son) will join Tessa Thompson (Creed, Thor: Ragnarok) in Hedda, a reimagining of Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler from MGM’s Orion Pictures and Plan B.
The film is being produced by Plan B, DaCosta, Gabrielle Nadig, and Thompson via Viva Maude. Michael Constable is executive producing alongside Kishori Rajan for Viva Maude.
Details of Hewson and Thompson’s roles have not yet been disclosed.
Hewson was recently IFTA-nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Drama) for her role in Bad Sisters. In 2021, she was also nominated for Best Actress in a Lead Role (Drama) for her performance in TV mini-series Behind Her Eyes. She was nominated for the Screen Ireland Rising Star Award in the same year.
Most recently she has appeared in John Carney’s Dublin-set musical dramedy Flora and Son playing opposite Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The film premiered at Sundance earlier this year. She is currently in production opposite Nicole Kidman, Liev Schreiber, Dakota Fanning and on Netflix’s limited series The Perfect Couple.
Hedda is currently in pre-production. The film’s release date is TBA.
