‘Michael Smiley: Something to Ride Home About’ TX 22.20 21 April on BBC NI
16 Apr 2014 | After leaving Northern Ireland in 1983, comic-actor of stand-up, TV and film, Michael Smiley returns his roots after more than 30 years to indulge in his greatest passion: cycling. Three-part TV series ‘Michael Smiley: Something to Ride Home About’ is a Green Inc Film and Television production for BBC One Northern Ireland made with the support of Northern Ireland Screen Agency. The first episode will air next Monday.

150 Jobs Announced for Mayo Based Irish TV Station
15 Apr 2014 | Irish TV’s founders Pierce O'Reilly (CEO) and Mairead Ní Mhaoilchiaráin (MD) have announced that up to 150 jobs are to be created with Ireland’s first ever international satellite television channel when it extends broadcasting hours next month.

IFTAs 2014 Ceremony
09 Apr 2014 | The 2014 Irish Film and Television Awards took place last Saturday 5 April and the Doubletree hotel in Dublin and was jam-packed with all the stars from the world of film and television in Ireland. It was the first time in 4 years that the ceremony went back to round-table with 800 industry professionals in attendance. It was a major night of celebration for everyone in attendance with both Nominees and Winners celebrating their hard work into the small hours.

‘Moone Boy’ to be Adapted for Big Screen
07 Apr 2014 | Nick Vincent Murphy, writer of the ‘Moone Boy’ series alongside Chris O’ Dowd, has confirmed the rumours that the hit comedy series will be adapted for a feature film. The hit series has won a number of Emmy and IFTA awards, including Best Entertainment Series and Best Director, Television for Ian Fitzgibbon at last week’s IFTAs.

TV3 has ordered ‘Oysters’ from UK indie Alaska TV
03 Apr 2014 | TV3 has placed an order for a new reality series from Alaska TV which is said to be similar to American series ‘Duck Dynasty’. The show will consists of 10 episodes of 60 minutes each, and follows a family of oyster farmers in Carlingford, a coastal town in Co. Louth. The move will be part of the channel’s drive to commission more co-productions.

Irish Language IFTA Nominees
02 Apr 2014 | For 2014, the Irish Film and Television Academy will continue its awarding of an Irish Language Award. This year, several Irish language productions also received nominations across other award categories, with Irish language channel TG4 receiving 12 IFTA nominations altogether. Some Irish programmes received nominations in more than one category.

RTÉ Calls for Comedy, Talent Development & Music Programming
31 Mar 2014 | A new department has been set up in RTÉ Commissioning, which is responsible for the commission of all comedy output for RTÉ One, RTÉ Two, and online content. The department will oversee all comedy formats, including panel comedy shows, scripted comedy, sitcom, satire, sketch shows, studio comedy and stand-up shows.

27 Mar 2014 | ‘An Gaeilgeoir is Greannmhaire’ (‘GIG’) is a newly formatted 8 part series from Good Company Productions to be broadcast from tonight on TG4 at 9.30pm. The series presents the search for the funniest Irish speaking comedian (or ‘gaeilgeoir’) in Ireland. The winner will receive a cash prize of €5,000 and a spot at a top Irish Comedy Festival in 2014.

Gay Byrne to leave RTÉ
26 Mar 2014 | RTÉ legend Gay Byrne has vowed that he will not take up any more contracts with the national broadcaster. The Howth-based presenter, who will turn 80 this August, announced that he felt the time had come to leave his long career with the Montrose station. Mr Bryne joined RTÉ over 50 years ago.

‘Vikings’ Renewed for Third Season
25 Mar 2014 | Following the last episode of the first series screening last Sunday night on RTÉ Two, and with the History Channel in the US currently showing the second series, ‘Vikings’ has proven it is in high demand still as it has received an order for a 10-episode third season. It will begin production this summer for a 2015 release.
