BCI Signs TV Contract With 'Waterford At Eight'

The Broadcasting Commission of Ireland (BCI) has announced that it has awarded a contract to South East Broadcasting Company Limited (trading as ‘Waterford at Eight’) for the provision of a local television service for Waterford City and County as part of Section 38 (Local Content Contract) of the Broadcasting Act, 2001.

‘Waterford at Eight’ will comprise one 45-minute programme each evening at 8pm. The service will provide a mix of local news, sport, information, entertainment, and the history and traditions of the area. An Irish language feature will also be incorporated into the programme each week.

The programme will be first broadcast each Thursday evening and repeated over the weekend. The programme will be updated for broadcast on Monday evening and repeated on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Waterford at Eight will be delivered via the ntl cable service in Waterford city, the ntl MMDS service in the Tramore / Suir Valley area and on Casey Cablevision in Dungarvan and Co. Waterford.

Commenting on the announcement, Conor J, Maguire, BCI Chairperson said, “Waterford at Eight’s application marks the first contract to be awarded under Section 38 of the Broadcasting Act, 2001. We wish the service well and look forward to bringing contract negotiations to a timely conclusion.”
