Neil Jordan’s ‘Shade’ In Bookshops May 5th
29 Apr 2004 :

The new book entitled ‘Shade’ written by Neil Jordan will be available in bookshops from Wednesday the 5th of May 2004.

It is the story of a murdered woman Nina Hardy, who is killed by the hand of her best friend. Her body is never found “and she remains, a silent shade, watching the events of her own afterlife.”

Her half-brother Gregory makes a pilgrimage home to bury her, after some thirty years away. There he finds Janie, George’s sister and fourth member of their childhood gang. Together they relive their shared history, as they struggle to make sense of Nina’s death, and the people they all became.

‘With this fierce, dark and yet luminous novel, Neil Jordan once again demonstrates that he is one of Ireland’s most talented artists’
John Banville

Jordan has also written:
Sunrise With Sea Monster,
The Past and The Dream of a Beast.
Night in Tunisia (Winner of the Guardian Fiction Prize)

As a director, his films include ‘The Company of Wolves, ‘Mona Lisa’, The End of the Affair’, and ‘The Crying Game’, which won him an Oscar for Best Screenplay. Shade is his first novel in ten years.
