The first installment of the highly anticipated new BBC NI drama from Jimmy McGovern, Gunpowder, Treason and Plot, will be shown on BBC Two this weekend.
The two part drama series is a Box TV production for BBC Northern Ireland directed by Gillies MacKinnon and stars Robert Carlyle and French newcomer Clémence Poésy. The films explore the lives of Mary Queen of Scots and her son James 1st.
Robert Cooper, Executive Producer and Former Head of BBC NI, says: "In Gunpowder, he (Jimmy McGovern) explores the nature of power and kingship with a drama inspired by historical characters and events, in much the same way as Shakespeare interpreted the past in the history plays….It's a personal vision, a dramatic interpretation of history."
Jimmy McGovern credits include Sunday, Liam, Hillsborough, Priest and Cracker.
Gunpowder, Treason and Plot, will be shown on BBC TWO on Sunday 14 March and Sunday 21 March at 9.00pm.
