Irish actors Faoileann Cunningham and Aoife Hinds will star alongside Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, and more in upcoming Dune prequel series, Dune: Prophecy.

Faoileann Cunningham (The Northman, The Witcher: Blood Origin) and Aoife Hinds (Normal People, Derry Girls) are set to star in an upcoming Dune streaming series, led by Emily Watson (God’s Creatures) and Olivia Williams (Rushmore).

Dune: Prophecy is set 10,000 years before the events of the 1965 novel upcoming which the Denis Villeneuve Dune films are based. The series follows sisters Valya (Watson) and Tula Harkonnen (Williams) as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the Bene Gesserit, an all-female sect with superhuman abilities.

Faoileann Cunningham’s character Sister Jen is described as "a fierce, unpredictable acolyte in training at the Sisterhood School who rarely reveals her emotional core", and Aoife Hinds’ Sister Emeline is described as "a zealous acolyte descended from a long line of martyrs, who carries fervent religion to her training at the Sisterhood”.

Also featured in the ensemble cast are Mark Strong (Kingsman: The Secret Service), Travis Fimmel (Vikings), Jodhi May (The Last of the Mohicans), Sarah Lam (Kenneth Branagah’s Hamlet), and Camilla Beeput (Peep Show).

Dune: Prophecy is based on the 2012 prequel novel The Sisterhood of Dune, by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. Screenwriter Jon Spaihts (Dune, Prometheus) was originally set to be the series showrunner, but was replaced by Diane Ademu-John in July 2021. Ademu-John left the project before production was set to begin in 2022, making her co-showrunner Alison Schapker (Lost) the only showrunner now attached to the project. The first episode The Hidden Hand was written by Ademu-John and directed by Anna Foerster (Outlander).

The series is set to stream on Max in late 2024.
