How To Tell A Secret is an IFTA-nominated hybrid documentary, in which co-directors Anna Rodgers and Shaun Dunne use documentary, performance and genre-blurring storytelling techniques to explore what it means to be HIV positive in contemporary Ireland.
How To Tell A Secret, co-directed by Anna Rodgers and Shaun Dunne, will be available on Netflix from December 1st. The hybrid documentary began life as a documentary stage play from Shaun Dunne. December 1st is World AIDS Day, an international day dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection and mourning those who've died of the disease.
Through a combination of documentary and performance, How To Tell A Secret explores the act of disclosure of being HIV positive and the stigma that drives people to withhold their status in contemporary Ireland.
The film was nominated for two IFTAs earlier this year: the George Morrison Feature Documentary, and Best Cinematography for Eleanor Bowman. Prior to the 20th Anniversary of the Irish Film and Television Academy awards this year, we sat down with DP Bowman to discuss her experience of shooting the film, how she began her career in film and her cinematic influences.
How To Tell A Secret will be available to watch on Netflix from December 1st.
