Robert Lorenz’s upcoming thriller In The Land of Saints and Sinners will have its premiere at the 80th Venice Film Festival. The cast includes Colm Meaney, Kerry Condon, Jack Gleeson, and Sarah Greene.
The 80th Venice Film Festival is announcing its lineup today, with artistic director Alberto Barbera and La Biennale president Roberto Cicutto holding a press conference in the Italian city.
Previously announced include the opening film, Comandante, and the closing film, Netflix’s Society of the Snow. Comandante has replaced Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers, starring Zendaya and Josh O’Connor, due to promotional complications in regards to the SAG-AFTRA strike.
Included in the announcements today, along with new films from Woody Allen and Wes Anderson, is In The Land of Saints and Sinners, a film that Colm Meaney has described as “an Irish Avengers” for its ensemble of Irish actors.
Shot on location in Donegal, the film follows a retired assassin (Liam Neeson) in a remote Irish village who gets drawn into a lethal game of cat-and-mouse with a trio of vengeful terrorists. The cast includes Meaney, Neeson, Ciarán Hinds, Kerry Condon, Jack Gleeson, Sarah Greene, Desmond Eastwood, Conor MacNeill, Seamus O’Hara, Valentine Olukoga and Mark O’Regan.
Geraldine Hughes and Terry Loane of Prodigal Films Limited are producing alongside Facing East’s Markus Barmettler and Philip Lee. Kieran Corrigan, Ehud Bleiberg, Danny Dimbort, Nicholas Bennett, Victor Hadida, Marc Jacobson, Lorenz, Adrian Grabe, Daniel Fluri and Marcel Gloor are executive producing.
The film will screen out of competition at the Venice Film Festival. In the Land of Saints and Sinners is due to release on Netflix in Ireland and the UK next year.
