Irish Supernatural Comedy 'Extra Ordinary' Releases in Over 100 Irish Cinemas this Friday the 13th
13 Sep 2019 : Nathan Griffin
Will Forte and Maeve Higgins in Extra Ordinary
Written and directed by Mike Ahern and Enda Loughman (aka Team D.A.D.D.Y.), ‘Extra Ordinary’ is the debut feature film from the directing duo, which releases in over 100 cinemas across Ireland this Friday, September 13th.

The film stars comedian/writer/actress Maeve Higgins (Naked Camera, Inside Amy Schumer), Barry Ward (Jimmy’s Hall, MAZE), Will Forte (Nebraska, Run & Jump), and Claudia O’Doherty (Trainwreck, Love, Inside Amy Schumer). The film also boasts a strong Irish cast with Siobhan McSweeney (Derry Girls), Risteard Cooper (Apres Match), Alison Spittle (Nowhere Fast), Mary McEvoy (Glenroe) and Jamie Beamish (Derry Girls) rounding out the cast.

Extra Ordinary follows the story of Rose, a sweet, lonely driving instructor in rural Ireland, who is gifted with supernatural abilities. Rose has a love/hate relationship with her ‘talents’ & tries to ignore the constant spirit related requests from locals - to exorcise possessed rubbish bins or haunted gravel. But! Christian Winter, a washed-up, one-hit-wonder rock star, has made a pact with the devil for a return to greatness! He puts a spell on a local teenager- making her levitate. Her terrified father, Martin Martin, asks Rose to help save his daughter. Rose has to overcome the fear of her supernatural gift & work with Martin to save the girl, get the guy and be home in time for a light snack...maybe a yogurt or something...

The film, which made its world premiere at SXSW Festival earlier this year, is produced by Katie Holly (Citadel, Love & Friendship), Mary McCarthy (Mr. Foley, Six Shooter), Yvonne Donohoe (Striking Out) and Ailish Bracken (The Queen of Ireland) for Blinder Films, in co-production with Umedia with funding from Screen Ireland, UMedia and Inevitable Pictures. The project also participated in the 2014 Frontiéres Film Market where it won Best Pitch.

Wildcard Distribution is handling the release of the film in Irish cinemas, with Epic Pictures handling world sales outside of Ireland.

Extra Ordinary was shot over five weeks on location across Tullamore, Kildare, and Dublin, while the visual effects were done in Belgium at Umedia VFX.

Speaking about the project previously, directors Mike and Enda said:

"We are delighted we have somehow convinced an incredible group of actors and funny people we really admire, along with an amazing crew and some random folk that we just wanted to meet, to join our fever dream and make this mysterious romantic oddball ghost story love comedy adventure film. The timely script obviously hit home as it shines a light on important, serious issues like that of haunted wheelie bins in rural Ireland. The fact that International super talent Will Forte has come on board suggests the topic of tiny hauntings is a universal problem that needs to be highlighted and addressed. See you at the Oscars! "

Patrick O’Neill, Wildcard Distribution MD added:

“Extra-Ordinary is one of the funniest scripts I have ever read and combined with the unique talents of Mike & Enda, and superb cast, we are sure the film is going to become a future Irish classic and be loved by audiences all over the world”.

Extra Ordinary releases in Irish cinemas nationwide this Friday, September 13th.
