Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival Appoints Aidan Greene as New Chairman of Festival Board
06 Feb 2019 : News Desk
Aidan Greene, Deputy CEO of Core, has been appointed as Chairman of the Board of the Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival.

An advertising professional with nearly three decades of experience, Aidan will be in a position to combine his professional experience with his love of film to progress the work of the Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival.

Aidan is also the Deputy CEO of Core, Ireland’s largest media communications company. As part of his role, he has strategic responsibilities across the nine Core practices. In addition, Aidan spent two years as President of the Institute of Advertising Practitioners of Ireland (IAPI), the leading representative and advocacy organisation for the Irish marketing and communications sector.

He was previously Managing Director of media planning and buying agency, MediaVest (now called Spark Foundry). He launched the direct response media agency, Clear Blue Water, in 2005, before taking the reins of MediaVest in 2007. He has also worked in Ogilvy & Mather and Carat. Aidan has represented the advertising industry as Chairman of the Joint National Readership Survey (JNRS) committee and currently sits on the management committee of the Joint National Outdoor Research (JNOR).  He has lectured in the Dublin Institute of Technology and the Fitzwilliam Institute.

Speaking about his appointment as Chairman of VMDIFF Board, Aidan Greene said:

“I believe that the festival is integral to the cultural identity of Ireland. I’m excited to play a part in continuing its legacy of championing Irish cinema and Irish filmmakers, as well as allowing Irish audiences unprecedented access to cutting edge international talent and film.

Gráinne Humphreys, Festival Director, Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival added:

“The Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival curates and presents the best in emerging International and Irish film and moving image culture for a wide audience through its flagship annual festival. We are delighted Aidan has joined us as Chairman of the Board. With his wealth of experience and a healthy passion for film, Aidan will undoubtedly be a wonderful asset to us as we work to consolidate the Festival’s position as Ireland’s most popular film event.”

The other members of the board are Anne-Marie Curran, Ruth Hunter, Hugh Linehan, Ronan Murphy, Suzanne Noble, Mark O’Halloran, and Paula Woods.

Over the past fifteen years, the festival has hosted over 550 major guests, including winners of the festival’s prestigious Volta Award such as Al Pacino, Julie Andrews, Danny DeVito, Daniel Day-Lewis, Joss Whedon, Brendan Gleeson, Angela Lansbury, Paul Schrader, Stanley Tucci, Stellan Skarsgård, Kristin Scott Thomas and Ennio Morricone.

The festival has screened world cinema from 52 different countries, a total of almost 1,500 films, of which 300 were Irish features including Irish premieres of ‘Handsome Devil’, ‘Black 47’, ‘Sing Street’, ‘Once’, ‘Ondine’, ‘In Bruges’, ‘Calvary’, ‘The Stag’ and ‘The Secret of Kells’. The festival’s young people’s programme Fantastic Flix is expanding each year, engaging schools and families and building a new generation of film fans.

The Dublin International Film Festival is sponsored by Virgin Media, its principal funder is the Arts Council and it is also in receipt of funding from official industry partner, the Irish Film Board.

The Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival will run from 20th February to 3rd March.
