Vico Film's 'The Young Offenders' Picks up Nomination at 57th Rose d’Or Awards
18 Jul 2018 : Nathan Griffin
RTÉ & BBC Three’s hit comedy series ‘The Young Offenders’ has been nominated for a prestigious Rose d’Or Award.

Now in its 57th year, the Rose d’Or Awards define the gold standard of excellence and achievement in entertainment programming. Specialising in Television, this nomination highlights a huge achievement for the show, which is nominated in the ‘Best Sitcom’ category alongside Channel 4’s ‘The Windsors, Acorn TV’s ‘Detectorists’, and Polyphon Film’s ‘Magda macht das schon!’

Created by Peter Foott and produced by Vico Films, ‘The Young Offenders’ has already enjoyed major success with its television debut, picking up two IFTAs at the recent Television awards back in May.

The series, which features Alex Murphy and Chris Walley as loveable rogues Conor and Jock, and Hilary Rose as Conor’s mam Mairead, averaged an audience of 401,000 during its TX run on RTÉ, and proved hugely popular with younger viewers: 36% of 15-34 year olds tuned in every Thursday night on RTÉ2.

Speaking about the nomination Writer/Director Peter Foott, creator of The Young Offenders, told IFTN:

"The Rose d'Or Awards are highly respected internationally, and it's a huge honour to receive a nomination for The Young Offenders in the sitcom category alongside some truly amazing shows. The whole team is thrilled with the nomination, and we're always grateful to BBC3 for all their support."

Speaking about this year’s nominees, EBU Head of Television and Rose d’Or organizer Jeroen Depraetere said:

"We're pleased to see the number of entries for this year's Rose d'Or was even higher than last year, which shows the power of these awards, in their 57th year, to engage the global entertainment community. The EBU is proud that once again the Rose d’Or Awards can provide a place where the world's entertainment makers can come together and celebrate their best work.”

Cillian Murphy’s BBC hit ‘Peaky Blinders’ has also been nominated for a Rose d’Or Award in the category of ‘Best Drama Series’, where it will compete against Netfflix’s Original Series ‘The Crown’ and Hulu Original Series ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’.

This year’s Rose d’Or Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to British actress & broadcaster Joanna Lumney

The Rose d’Or Awards take place in Berlin on Thursday, September 13th.
