Shortlist Announced for Film in Cork’s Short Film Award 2018
30 Apr 2018 : Nathan Griffin
Film in Cork has announced its shortlist of finalists for the Film In Cork Short Film Award 2018. Having received 90 submissions from filmmakers all over Ireland, judges had the tough decision of choosing a shortlist of 16 entries, who will now progress to the next stage of judging.

In January, Film in Cork, through the support of the Arts Offices of Cork City and County Councils, and in association with the Tomar Trust, announced details of this year’s Short Film Award, a funding initiative that aims to support creative and resourceful filmmaking in the Cork region.

The award will be given to one successful project which will receive €8,000 towards the cost of production of the film, which must be shot in Cork City and/ or county. The winner will also receive support in terms of locations, production, mentoring and planning the film’s festival release strategy.

A new element added to the judging process in 2018 will see those that have been shortlisted benefit from a development workshop and feedback seminar on May 5th. The first half of the day will involve the development workshop which focuses on emulating the realities of industry and preparing filmmakers for the intensive developmental stage of feature films. Later in the day, those shortlisted will receive constructive feedback from the judges on their individual submissions, and will have the opportunity to revise their scripts and resubmit by May 25th.

Speaking at the announcement of the shortlist, Rossa Mullin who runs Film in Cork commented on the calibre of entries:

“The level of high quality submissions from talented filmmakers here in Ireland was very encouraging to see, and our judges had a tough job deciding on the projects to take part in the development session. We are looking forward to meeting the shortlisted filmmakers at our new development day where they will receive valuable insights and feedback from highly experienced industry professionals.”

Following the final submission date, a number of applicants will enter the final interview stage on June 21st, before the winner is announced.
