Irish boxing drama ‘Float like a butterfly’ has gone on world sale at the AFM and is being repped by WestEnd Films as part of their ‘WeLove’ series.
WestEnd Films is launching world sales at the AFM on boxing drama ‘Float Like a Butterfly’ from Irish writer-director Carmel Winters (Snap).
‘Float Like a Butterfly’ stars Dara Devaney (Camelot), Hazel Doupe (Ripper Street), Lalor Roddy (Hunger), Aidan O’Hare (The Wind that Shakes the Barley) and Hilda Fay. The film only recently finished shooting in Ireland and is currently in Post-Production in Egg Post-Productions.
The film which is written and directed by Carmel Winters (Snap), follows a young Irish Traveller girl, named Francis, as she fights for her right to pursue her passion…boxing.
With her sights set on following in her idol, Muhammad Ali’s footsteps and becoming a boxer, Francis’ dreams of making her idol proud are thrown into jeopardy when her father is released from prison and she realises he has other plans for her future.
The film is produced by David Collins (A Dark Song), Martina Niland (Sing Street), and co-produced by Cathleen Dore (Viva). The film crew also included editor Julian Ulrichs (Sing Street), Michael Lavelle as Director Of Photography, and Lesley McKimm as executive producer
Director Carmel Winters said:
“Even more so since his death, Muhammad Ali remains a powerful and timeless symbol of the Champion of the Underdog. It feels timely that now on our screens we will see a young Irish Traveller girl, Francis, take on the mantle of his legacy with her own gut-wrenching and ultimately jubilant story.”
The film was funded by The Irish Film Board and The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland. It received €600k from IFB in the Q1 2017 Funding Decisions, and €300k from BAI.
The film was made by Samson Films.
