Irish Film ‘Twice Shy’ leads the Cinema Releases this Weekend

Tom Ryan’s second feature film hits the big screen this weekend, with a special Q&A screening moderated by Tara Flynn at the Light House Cinema tonight at 17:00.

Further screenings of the title starring young Iseult Casey and Shane Murray-Corcoran are scheduled in the IMC Cinemas Dun Laoghaire, and additional cinemas in Cork, Galway, Mayo and Ryan’s hometown of Tipperary.

‘Twice Shy’ also launches on streaming platform Volta today and is distributed in Ireland by Wildcard Distribution.

The film follows young couple Maggie (Casey) and Andy (Murray-Corcoran) on their journey to have an abortion, while reflecting on their relationship. Pat Shortt (Smalltown) and Ardal O’Hanlon (Father Ted) also feature in supporting roles.

Hampstead, Friday, June 23rd
Irish talent Brendan Gleeson leads the cast alongside Diane Keaton, an American widow finds unexpected love with a man (Gleeson) living wild on Hampstead Heath when they take on the developers who want to destroy his home.

‘Hamstead’ is directed by Robert Festinger (In the Bedroom) and is distributed in Ireland by Entertainment One.

The Book of Henry, Friday, June 23rd
Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World) directs Jacob Tremblay (Room), Naomi Watts (Chuck), Jaeden Lieberher (Midnight Special).

With instructions from her genius son's carefully crafted notebook, a single mother sets out to rescue a young girl from the hands of her abusive stepfather.

‘The Book of Henry’ is distributed in Ireland by Universal Pictures.

In This Corner of the World, Friday June 23rd
Sunao Katabuchi directs this animated feature which is set in Hiroshima during World War II. An eighteen-year-old girl gets married and now has to prepare food for her family despite the rationing and lack of supplies.

‘In This Corner of the World’ is distributed in Ireland by Manga UK.

From the Land of the Moon, Friday June 23rd
Marion Cotillard stars as Gabrielle, a passionate, free-spirited woman who is in a loveless marriage and falls for another man when she is sent away to the Alps to treat her kidney stones. Nicole Garcia (Going Away) directs the drama which is set in 1950s France.

‘From the Land of the Moon’ is distributed in Ireland by Studio Canal.

The Seasons in Quincy: Four Portraits of John Berger, Friday June 23rd
This biographical documentary written by Tilda Swinden and Ben Lerner is a five-year project exploring the life of intellectual and storyteller John Berger. Swinden, Bartek Dziadosz, Colin McCabe and Christopher Roth direct.

‘The Seasons in Quincy: Four Portraits of John Berger’ is distributed in Ireland by Curzon.
